I'm thrilled to revisit the Galería de La Raza, the place where I initially introduced my small piñatas during a holiday event several years ago. Be on the lookout for my piñata cart featuring unique creations.

I'm delighted to be a part of this month's Art Hop in Fresno, yet it comes with a tinge of sadness as I share that this will be my final one in the city. I'm embarking on a new chapter, relocating to Los Angeles to reestablish both my business and life in my hometown.

My time in Fresno has been truly enriching, and I'm profoundly grateful for the support and love I've received. Conducting winter, summer, and afterschool workshops with the Fresno Unified School District has been exceptionally fulfilling, leaving a lasting impact on me. The memories shared with my students will stay close to my heart as I continue to spread the joy of art and culture through my little piñatas.
The connections forged and new relationships formed with fellow artists, business owners, and creatives have been a source of immense pride in the art and work I choose to share with the community. Although this marks a goodbye for now, I eagerly anticipate returning for my public art exhibition, "migration c/s." Until then, I carry the spirit of Fresno with me, celebrating art and culture one little piñata at a time.

Catch My Little Piñata cart this Art Hop

I'm thrilled to be working with Con Todo Press on a collaboration for the release of their new  children's book titled, How To Stuff a Piñata /Cómo Rellenar una Piñata, by Naibe Reynoso, illustrated by Ana Varela.

How to Stuff a Piñata celebrates the popular Mexican tradition while delivering a heartwarming message about the importance of spending time and creating memories with loved ones. 
A follow up to How to Fold a Taco, this whimsical, bilingual book is also written in rhyme in both English and Spanish. Perfect for children ages 2-8.

Publish day: April 18, 2024 - NATIONAL PINATA DAY

A pop-up community exhibition

Following the success of my "resilience c/s" installation at the Craft in America Center (Los Angeles) and "abundance c/s" at the Mingei International Museum (San Diego), that featured over 200 Monarch butterfly piñatas, I'm excited to turn this into an interactive community experience! With your support, I aim to fund pop-up installations in cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Fresno, San Diego, and more.

After hanging the piñatas, the community can collect them, scan the QR code, and follow instructions to participate.

I encourage each collector to:

1. Share pictures of their loved one.
2. Share text about their loved one. 
3. Share a location to be placed in the map which will then be integrated into a dynamic Google map tracking the migration of every small butterfly piñata. This feature enables the sharing of pictures directly on the map, fostering a visually interactive community platform that vividly captures the collective impact of this unique exhibition. It does not have to be a specific address, a general location is fine. I respect your privacy.

When did you know that this was the right path for you?
One of my earliest memories of artistic exploration dates back to kindergarten, where I was handed a cardboard tray and encouraged to dip marbles in paint, rolling them around to craft an abstract masterpiece. This cherished childhood experience, filled with curiosity and excitement, laid the visual foundation for my journey as a creative artist.

In Mrs. Leaper's third-grade class, a pivotal moment crystalized when I resolved to become an artist. I enthusiastically shared this decision with my classmates and family, and from that point on, I have unwaveringly followed the path of artistic expression. Visual art and storytelling have become the focal points of my creative pursuits. They provide a canvas for me to indulge in creative freedom, allowing me to articulate thoughts, express opinions, and convey emotions in a way that no other medium can match.

The act of making, sharing, and teaching art is not just a vocation; it's my life's passion and mission. As a creative and spiritual being, I am profoundly grateful for the myriad visual influences that have supported and shaped my artistic journey. Each brushstroke, every shared moment, and each lesson taught contributes to the intricate tapestry of my artistic existence, and for that, I am truly thankful.

What do you like most about what you do?
I derive immense joy from crafting art that not only fulfills my passion but also serves as a wellspring of inspiration and entertainment for others. The process of working with my tools and materials is a deeply gratifying experience, allowing me to meticulously fashion vibrant, miniature pieces of art that hold significant value in the lives of those who encounter them.

What is the biggest obstacle you have faced in your career, and how did you overcome it?
Overcoming self-doubt has been the most significant challenge in my career. The persistent negative thoughts and fears have often hindered progress, making the creative process arduous and disheartening. Fortunately, my commitment to mindfulness practices has paved the way for a transformative journey.

Through meditation and embracing a growth mindset, I've managed to navigate and conquer this daunting challenge. One mantra that has profoundly impacted my life in the past year is, "Live the flow, not the fear." This approach involves allowing the natural course of life to unfold without judgment or overthinking, resulting in remarkable outcomes. It's not about eliminating fear entirely but rather refusing to let fear dictate the trajectory. By prioritizing the flow of life over succumbing to fear, I've witnessed incredible transformations and successes in my creative endeavors.

If your phone could ring right now with your dream opportunity, what would that be?
Embarking on a whimsical piñata art-making tour across the country is a dream of mine. Having previously been featured in California and New Mexico, I'm inspired to take this creative journey to a national level. Imagine a mobile studio, a vibrant vehicle, traversing various states to host pop-up galleries and conduct engaging art-making activities. The positive experiences I've had in the two states I've explored affirm the potential for many more to benefit from this unique and enriching artistic adventure. The vision is to spread creativity, joy, and artistic expression far and wide, connecting with diverse communities throughout the country.

What do you want people to remember most about you and your career?
I want to emphasize my deep gratitude for every individual's existence. I firmly believe that for me to exist, you must exist, creating an intricate web of interconnected lives. Visual art, in its myriad forms, serves as a profoundly beautiful and remarkable conduit for us to connect and share aspects of how we thrive in this world together. It's a testament to the shared human experience, transcending boundaries and fostering a collective appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.

I'm happy to hear that folks I worked with on the Southern Exposure exhibition are going to be creating an altar to honor undocumented people at this year's Dia De Los Muertos Festival in Oakland, CA. My little piñata border wall will be included. Here is a short Emmy awarded video that featured that exhibition and the border wall. Hope to see you out there for this great annual event!
